STOP tears in ONE breath!
Again, you must say out loud, “Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha…” to make sure you exhale. Exhaling until you have no more breath is best, for the inhale will be bigger, meaning more oxygen is getting to your brain. Oxygen calms the body. If you are really upset, do several exhalations saying out loud, “Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha…” until you calm down.
Why does this work?
Most people are shallow breathers, meaning they do not take big breaths. Consequently, much of the air in their lungs is old stale air. All the value from it has already been used.
Worse than that, when a person is upset, they usually hold their breath. This exacerbates the problem! Breathing is how the body acclimates to all situations. Thus, the deeper the breath taken, the faster is the acclimation.
By doing an exhale until you run out of breath forces all of the stale air out of the lungs and allows for new air to enter. This often doubles the amount of oxygen circulating in your body. Thus, there is an instant benefit. You immediately feel stronger, calmer and more clear-headed. You are now in a better position to handle the situation.
